National Service Scheme Unit

The University has adopted the National Service Scheme at the University level. The main goal of NSS is to nurture patriotism, and inculcate service moto among the students.

Coordinator at the main campus and Assistant Coordinators at each of the sub campuses organize the defined and identified mandated programs.  The UG students undergo non-credit NSS course during I and II year.  As part of the course, the students attend 10 days camp in rural areas and render community service.

Other notable NSS programmes during recent times include ‘Fit India Freedom Run-2020’ program to encourage fitness and Vigilance Programme on Anti-Corruption week to create awareness about corruption and bring in honesty among the people.

National Service Scheme Unit – College of Agriculture, GKVK

The University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore has five National Service Scheme (NSS) units and one such unit is operating at College of Agriculture, UAS, GKVK, Bengaluru. NSS unit has been established in the year 1993-94 with motto or watch-word of the National Service Scheme i.e., NOT ME BUT YOU. This expresses the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for selfless service and appreciation of the other man’s point of view and also to show consideration for fellow human beings. It underlines that the welfare of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of society as a whole.

Goal of NSS is Education through Community Service and Community Service through Education. The NSS Unit regularly organizes various students’ centric activities and main emphasis is laid on personality development of students through community participation. Students are involved in “Shramadana” in the campus thus contributing for keeping campus neat and tidy by clearing plastic and weeds.

The unit conducts National and State level students’ activities such as Regular Camps, National Integration Camp (NIC), Yoga day, Anti-Tobacco day, Sadbhavana day, Fit India Freedom run, Republic day parade, (State and Central), Adventure camps as per guidelines of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt. of India and Govt. of Karnataka. Annual NSS Special camps are organized at the villages regularly. NIC gives insight into folk culture, leads to exchange of culture and helps to build confidence in youth to bring in National Integration. Programmes on awareness about rain water harvesting, value addition of agricultural produce, social evils, capacity building of farmers on pests and disease control are organized in the camps.

Volunteers specifically trained on e-waste management are engaged to share the ideas among other students.  Further, such volunteers are involved in brain storming sessions to discuss E- waste management in the campus. Other activities like life skill programs, values, leadership qualities, entrepreneur set up, yoga activities, improving concentration through meditation are carried out regularly for the benefit of the students.
